Victim's Compensation (TCLEOSE #2007)

The Crime Victims’ Compensation Program is administered by the Office of the Attorney General and is dedicated to ensuring that victims of violent crime are provided financial assistance for crime-related expenses that cannot be reimbursed by insurance or other sources.  This course is specifically intended to provide law enforcement with knowledge of available resources for women who are victims of violence.

Informants Recruiting/Handling & Management

 

A two-day HIDTA training seminar that will provide the skills and knowledge to develop, supervise and manage the use of informants in all aspects of criminal investigations. Informants can be a direct line to the criminal underworld to provide the investigator with up-to-date intelligence or the information to solve current or ongoing crime problems.  Improper informant procedures or policies can lead to compromising an investigation, civil liability or even the possibility of injury or death to Police and Civilians alike.  A standard department procedure and a written informant program are a positive force to ensure successful results from informant use.  Course topics include but are not limited to: General guidelines for Informant/Officer relationships, History of Informants, Proper Informant Training, Informant motives, Informant cultivation, Informant obligations, Informant coordination, Informant Contracts, Entrapment Issues, Case Studies, Payment and Documentation, Maintaining Informants records.

Paul O'Neill with Midland Animal Control will be teaching a course that will cover topics of:

Reasons animals are aggressive, situations where they may show aggression, how to  “read” the animal, scene size up, situational awareness, initial actions to take.

What is needed for the situation – snare, catch pole, bite-stick, chemical spray, tranquilizers, net guns, stun-guns, firearm.  Pros/cons, legality of use, training required, appropriate to use. 

Texas Penal Code and local ordinances, bite avoidance techniques, how to take a bite and survive.

This year, the keynote speaker will be Peter Harrell, Jr.   Peter Harrell Jr. is president of Harrell Communications and currently a Senior Consultant for Verbal Defense & Influence. He was certified as a Master in Verbal Judo, by the late Dr. George Thompson PhD, founder of the Verbal Judo Institute. This session will help those attending generate compliance, cooperation, and collaboration, prevent interpersonal conflict and de-escalate it if it occurs, improve customer service and sales, maintain mental and emotional safety in the midst of conflict, and stop verbal abuse, bullying and harassment.  

Registration is through Midland College. Deadline for registering is Feb. 23rd.
