In order to be able to offer prompt and helpful assistance to crime victims, officers need to be well informed about victims’ rights, legal procedures, and available victim services within the community. Admittedly, it can be difficult to keep an overview, but competent victim assistance involves more than just handing out Victim Assistance Pamphlets.

This class is designed to help officers better understand victims’ crisis reactions and recognize elements of appropriate crisis intervention. Moreover, participants will brush up their knowledge of eligibility requirements and legal procedures regarding EPO’s and PO’s as well as benefits and limitations of existing victim services programs.

Guest speakers from the District Attorney’s Office Protective Order Division, Crisis Intervention Unit and Safe Place will also be present.
